OPENERS

Starting a blog is always sticky, but surely there must be lots of people out there with things to say?

  • A skeleton of the main ALMO (Lambeth Living) has been running for nearly a year now, but we still don't know whether it is going to be allowed. Can someone tell us the latest news? What is the cause of the delay?
  • What are the chances of getting the money that we need to bring our homes up to date? How have other applicants fared? How much money is in the kitty?
  • Why aren't the names addresses and telephone numbers of all board members available to the public?
  • Why was David Pritchard Jones removed from the Board? Why has he not been replaced?
  • What is happening with United Residents Housing? Is it true that it is experiencing severe financial and management problems?
  • What is happening with Latmos? Is it true that a settlement has been reached in the on-going dispute regarding allowances?

I am sure that there are many other questions that people will want to ask. And that if you ask them councillors or officers will want to reply.

My dear Old Capon, either you are an incurable optimist or you do not know Lambeth!

Lambeth Housing's officers are famous for being economical with the truth.

They do not like giving out information to the sort of person that lives in council housing as such people are too stupid to understand it, and it only causes trouble.

Anyway, if they did answer your questions it would only cause other troublemakers like you to ask more questions!

Young (wo)man, a word of warning: this is a serious site provided for the circulation of information among residents whose properties are managed by ALMOs in Lambeth and to give residents a place where they can discuss issues that affect them. The owners will not permit offensive comments or gratuitous insults regarding councillors, officers or other users.

That said, I accept the processes surrounding the set up of the ALMO have at times been less than transparent, and that there has been severe and unwarranted management of the information released to the publicby officers and councillors .

It is to be hoped that this situation will improve now that the Board have gained independence from the Council. However, Mr. Prichard-Jones's experiences described in the correspondence to be found at
http://groups.google.com/group/about-the-lambeth-almo?hl=en
suggest that its members will have a tough struggle to overcome the mentality that you describe in your post.

Yes, why aren't there any contact details provided for resident directors of the Board. Aren't they supposed to be residents' "REPRESENTATIVES"?

I don't know of any other type of democratically elected representative that has to be protected in this way. Doesn't anyone else find this a bit odd?

This is all DCH propaganda.

The ALMO is the only way that housing will be improved in Lambeth.

Al, I would like to believe you.

I don't see any answers or comments from councillors or officers to questions raised on this site.

Still I suppose that Labour councillors are too busy at the moment out on the estates knocking on people's doors to ask them them to vote for a Labour Mayor and Assembly Members in the election on 1st. May, and officers are to busy preparing for the ALMO!
